Spikeless Palm Tree Trimming
We use spikeless methods for Coconut Palm tree trimming (and all other palms), and we are properly trained & educated with correct pruning techniques to aid in disease prevention. Kauai Coconut Palm tree trimming can be performed as often as every 3-4 months to prevent risk of injury or damage from falling fruit.
Palms do not have the ability to heal wounds as trees do, and all wounds to a palm will be present for life. Trunk rot (a lethal and dangerous disease affecting palms) is most often caused by man-made wounds to the upper third of the trunk, usually from improper pruning techniques or spike wounds. Rest assured, we will not spike your palm trees.

Why pruning is so important & recommended

Mitigating potential risks is our priority, and our responsibility to you as your trusted Kauai tree trimming service. Our qualified arborists target dead, diseased, broken, and weakly attached branches within the crown of your tree. Regular pruning also allows us to correct small growth problems before they have a chance to become large problems.

Our qualified arborists have the experience and knowledge for proper Kauai tree trimming. Knowing the biology of trees goes a long way in executing correct cut placement. Improper pruning techniques can be devastating, possibly causing disease, decay, insect damage, poor aesthetics, and structural weakness.
Pruning methods we may utilize on your trees:
Crown Cleaning: Selective removal of dead, diseased, broken, or weakly attached branches.
Crown Thinning: Selective removal of branches to increase light penetration & air movement within the crown, and increase structure by removing conflicting growth (e.g. crossing branches) & reducing weight.
Crown Raising: Removal of lower branches of the tree to provide clearance for buildings, vehicles, people, and line of sight.
Crown Reduction: Selective removal of branches to reduce the size (height and/or spread) of the tree.
Vista Pruning: Pruning (and sometimes entire tree removal) to enhance a specific view (such as the beautiful mountains or ocean). This type of pruning can not only greatly increase your property value, but also lift your spirits. Vista pruning is a popular request among many of our Kauai customers.
Utility Pruning: Removal of branches or stems to prevent the loss of service, or damage to utility lines/equipment. We work with KIUC when needed, having them temporarily turn off power to high voltage lines, or drop lines so that we can execute our work safely.
Stump Grinding
After a tree is removed to ground level, there are a few reasons why we recommend to then have the stump ground out. Stump grinding further allows utilization of the area that the tree stump was in. Stump grinding also prevents the spreading of diseases and insects that is likely to happen with a decaying stump left to rot.
We offer two options to terminate the life of trees after their removal, in cases where the customer wishes not to have the stump & rootball excavated, or stump grinding is not desired, and now the stump & root system remains, but re-growth is not acceptable.
Stump Treatment: Option one is to apply a chemical to the stump called Triclopyr, which is a systemic herbicide that is highly effective, and works rapidly on fresh-cut tree stumps and woody stems. Triclopyr has rarely been detected in groundwater monitoring surveys, and is only rated “low” to “moderately” toxic to humans and wildlife, making it an exceptional option used to terminate the life of trees and woody-stemmed plants compared to Glyphosate (the chemical in RoundUp). Triclopyr is approved for use within the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, and used by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to control invasives safely. Triclopyr is significantly more expensive than Glyphosate, but we believe it is absolutely worth it to keep our children, pets, water, soil, and wildlife as safe as possible.
Option two is a salt kill. We dump a large amount of salt on top of the stump, wet it with water, and cover with a tarp for 2-6 months.
